Morrison will join the Debenhams’ senior management team this month
UK department store retailer Debenhams has appointed former Sainsbury’s executive Angela Morrison as its technology and supply chain director.
Morrison will join the Debenhams’ senior management team this month, alongside newly-appointed HR director Sally Hyndman.
Morrison’s background includes roles as chief information officer at Direct Line Group and IT director for J Sainsbury Plc where she sat on the operating board, as well as positions at Walmart and Asda.
Both new directors are expected to play vital roles in delivering Debenhams’ new strategy, Debenhams Redesigned, which was unveiled by CEO Sergio Bucher last week. The strategy aims to clearly define what the retailer stands for and to simplify the way the business operates to benefit customers and shareholders, establishing leadership in the field of ‘social shopping’.
The appointments follow decisions earlier this year by HR director Nikki Zamblera, and operations director Peter Swann, to leave the organisation.
“I am very excited to announce that both Sally and Angela are to join the Debenhams management team,” says Bucher. “Both bring a wealth of experience as we enter an important period of transformation for the business. They will be key change-makers guiding the implementation of our new strategy by delivering our people agenda and an improved digital proposition amongst other tasks.”
Morrison succeeds Peter Swann who is leaving after four and a half years of service to take up the role of operating director at WH Smith.
She said of her appointment: “I’m thrilled to be returning to retail by joining Debenhams at such an exciting time. I look forward to being part of the team that will help Debenhams become the go to destination for customers in this digital world.”
Hyndman replaces outgoing HR director, Nikki Zamblera, who is leaves the business after 12 years’ service.
