As the ‘internet of things’ (IoT) gathers pace, and more and more devices connect with each other, there are still more questions than answers on how to leverage the array of opportunities that the phenomenon presents.
While IoT is not new, developments in how to better handle big data and the emergence of more advanced cloud computing and analytics tools mean the supply chain is starting to harness data to enhance decisions.
By utilising radio frequency identification (RFID) and low power wide area networks (LPWANs), businesses are now able to track assets through the supply chain, often collecting data from far beyond the factory floor. Increasing visibility across the supply chain is just one way in which IoT has already shaken things up. Look out for more developments across 2017!
